square kilometers, or 14 square miles, and sits at an elevation of 42 meters above sea level, or roughly 138 feet. In the broader geographical context, there are several notable Polish cities within close proximity to Kwidzyn. Just to the north is the city of Malbork, with it's breath taking and world renown castle, and to the south of Kwidzyn you have the much larger city of Grudziadz.

Even by Polish standards Kwidzyn is an old city, and one with a rich and interesting history. The city was originally founded in 1232 by the Teutonic Knights when they constructed Ordensburg castle. This castle would eventually spawn the surrounding settlement of Marienwerder, which would go on to become the Prussian seat of the Bishops of Pomesania. The first settlers to the newly founded town were Masurian, originating from the Duchy of Masovia. Many notable residents would come to reside in the town during this period, such as the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order, Werner von Orseln, as well as Saint Dorothea of Montau. Kwidzyn would eventually move beyond it's humble beginning, and host the somewhat infamous Prussian Confederation in 1440. This confederation would clash with the Kingdom of Poland a decade and a half later in the Thirteen Years' War, and eventually Kwidzyn would become a Polish fief.

Although remnants of it's long and ancient history still dot the landscape, the Kwidzyn of today is a very modern industrial center, with locally produced exports reaching customers throughout greater Poland and the European Union. One of the largest economic forces within the city is the American paper producer International Paper. The company has a large manufacturing branch within the city, and provides the city's workforce with a large number of jobs. The second largest employer in Kwidzyn is the electronics producer known as Jabil, another American company. Outside of manufacturing, other elements of the city's local economy continue to thrive. Each year new hotels, restaurants, shops, and galleries open up, adding new spice and flavor to an already rich variety of available goods and services. With job opportunities being so plentiful, Kwidzyn has one of the lowest unemployment rates in Poland.

Tourism in Kwidzyn can be a fun and exciting experience, as the city is host to numerous sights of significant historic value. The predominant sight to see is obviously the Kwidzyn Castle, which was fully completed in 1322. The gothic castle, which is part of a greater belt of similar gothic style castles within the region, features a full museum, internal courtyard, cathedral, and a main tower, all of which are available to the general public during regular museum hours. Aside from interesting architectural sights, Kwidzyn has it's own theater, cultural center, and cinema. Visitors to the city can enjoy all of these amenities, along with fine hotels, restaurants, and pubs. Other recreational activities available include catching a local handball match.
